STABILISING & LIFTING - The URETEK Method

To correct interior residential floor settlement - choose URETEK

Until recently, a typical way to correct interior slab settlement was to install piers from inside your home, then instal jacks and lift. This could be a lengthy and disruptive process, that involved digging holes through your floor, weakening structural integrity. Other methods could involve tunnelling.

Today, many homeowners are finding that The URETEK Method provides an effective, clean and better solution. Compared with other methods, the work is completed in a fraction of the time, at less cost, with minimal disruption and collateral damage.

Whilst the F.A.Q's below relate to work inside a house (or in fact any building), much of the work is often accomplished from outside, particularly in relation to external walls on separate foundations (footings).

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ) ABOUT URETEK WORK INSIDE A HOME

Q. What is the URETEK process?
First a series of very small diameter holes are drilled approximately one to two metres (3 ft to 6 ft) apart, in the area the concrete or structure needs re-supporting or raising. A special synthetic composite resin is injected through these holes into the region under the slab. The resin expands, filling any voids, compacting and raising the affected area back to the required level.

Q. How do you ensure a slab is brought up to an even plane?
Employing laser devices, and other controls, our technicians use sophisticated procedures throughout the process to carefully monitor and govern the amount of slab lift.

Q. Will I also need to have piers installed?
No. The URETEK Method is a structural solution and generally eliminates the need for interior piers or underpins.

Q. I have both parquetry and tiled floors. Won't the holes show?
The holes are few and far between. Being extremely small, they are practically unnoticeable if they are filled with a small wooden plug or drilled through the tile joints.

Q. What about drilling through carpet?
Usually the carpet is rolled back in the affected area but often it can just be loosened from the tack strip along the wall.

Q. Can we expect a lot of dirty equipment, mess and dust in the house?
Unlike pier foundation work, which can involve jackhammering a series of one metre square holes, digging and carting soil and concrete through your house, The URETEK Method is a clean, quiet, dry and odourless procedure. Work is controlled from a fully equipped, self-contained mobile unit parked outside your residence.

Q. We have built-in furniture where our settlement is the worst. Will we have to remove it?
No, you should not have to remove fixtures, built-in furniture or even heavy appliances. This is another advantage of The URETEK Method.

Q. How long will the work take?
Usually one or two days ... generally no need to move out.

Q. Our slab has settled over 100 mm (4 inches). Can this be corrected?
The URETEK Method has been used to relevel slabs with as much as 350 mm (14 inches ) of settlement.

Q. What happens with cracked walls sitting on the slab?
These walls will lift with the slab (even if they are supporting the roof) and cracks caused by slab settlement can close up again, allowing repair during redecorating.

Q. How long has The URETEK Method been used?
The URETEK Method has been used extensively in the Europe, UK North America and Australasia for nearly 30 years, with proven, lasting, results.

Q. Can The URETEK Method be used for all types of settlement?
Many concrete settlement problems can be corrected with The URETEK Method. Our representatives, in conjunction with your engineer, can advise you on the most suitable procedure for your foundation.

Q. What sort of warranty will I get?
The URETEK material carries a ten year guarantee.

Q. Is it expensive?
No. Relative to traditional alternatives, especially with their disruption and consequential restoration expenses, The URETEK Method is most cost-effective.

Q. Is The URETEK Method used to correct non-residential settlement?
Yes, The URETEK Method is widely used to correct slab settlement at commercial and industrial sites. It is also used extensively to correct road settlement - even airport runways.
