URETEK PAVEMENT REPAIR Highways & Airports
URETEK Deep-Injection SUB-BASE PROBLEMS
URETEK Deep-Injection is a patented procedure, whereby the bearing capacity of the subgrade may be continuously improved down to considerable depths - or just at a specific depth - by injection of expanding resins.
Improvement is achieved by the controlled application of the forces generated by the expansion of unique URETEK resins. The procedure allows compression and compaction of soil directly under a pavement or structure, without excavation, vibration or mechanical force.
Following careful, prior evaluation of ground conditions, the procedure may be carried out in two phases.
1. Shallow Consolidation under concrete pavements and structures.
In this phase, the resins are injected through small holes into the zone immediately and directly below the slab, with the intent of confirming or re-establishing slab-to-ground contact by filling any voids which may be present. In addition, any loose soil is encapsulated and the immediate ground is improved by an increase in shear resistance.
2. Deep Consolidation
During 'Phase 2', the resin is injected through long, small diameter tubes, to the required depth, directly into the zone identified as being of concern.
If necessary to provide continuous vertical support, the process of 'Phase 2' may be repeated at successive depths to form a 'column' of densified ground and the entire procedure is repeated at predetermined intervals, in plan, across the area of concern.
Densification/consolidation occurs adjacent to the point of injection, by filling or compacting large and small voids and fissures, the expulsion of water and air and the formation of conglomerates. Consolidation is considered verified, and injection stopped, when the pavement surface just begins to lift. Alternatively consolidation may be verified by before-and-after penetrometer testing
APPLICATIONS
The process is ideal for highways, bridge approach/departure slabs, airport facilities and runways - any slab or structure on grade with settlement problems caused by poor sub-base or sub-grade soil compaction.
URETEK Deep-Injection has been used under both concrete and asphalt pavements as well as in all manner of residential, commercial and industrial situations.
KEY BENEFITS
No demolition, excavation or replacement.
Minimal disruption to road traffic - normally only one lane closed at a time.
Major problems corrected in a day; often in only a few hours.
Fast and efficient; takes traffic again in 30 minutes.
URETEK ADVANTAGES
The time required to implement a repair using URETEK Deep-Injection is significantly shorter than with any alternative.
URETEK material is guaranteed for a period of ten years against any significant shrinkage or deterioration.
URETEK resins are hydrophobic and not compromised when injected into moist soils or free water under pavements and slabs.
The material used in URETEK Deep-Injection has superior void-filling characteristics, expanding to many times its initial injected volume. It is strong yet lightweight - less than 10% of the weight of cement grouts. Minimal additional overburden weight is introduced into already distressed sub-grade soils.
Any desired lift is controlled with laser accuracy and soil densification can be confirmed by before-and-after penetrometer testing.
The cured polymer is inert and thus environmentally neutral. It is stable and insoluble and will not cause soil or water contamination.
Highway applications of this unique URETEK Deep-Injection technology have been proven by extensive use under pavements and bridge approach/departure slabs, particularly throughout USA and Australia.
URETEK Worldwide has completed over 50,000 slab, pavement and foundation restoration projects.
