3000M² OF FLOORS WERE RE-LEVELLED WITH NO DISRUPTION TO DAILY BUSINESS
The popular hypermarket, K-Citymarket, in Jämsä (located in Central Finland) had experienced challenges as a result of uneven floors shortly after it was built in 2008. Both personnel safety and customer comfort were the key issues when the property owner contacted URETEK for help. Personnel had difficulty filling the shelves and customers had to contend with steering their shopping carts over occasionally sloping floors. Yet the business had to be managed every day and services needed to be available for the customers. URETEK non-disruptive engineering services offered a solution where the business could continue to be run without interruptions – even during the peak season of the summer holidays. The other alternative for the owner would have been to close the shop for many weeks, if not months, and to do traditional piling.
After careful soil investigation and ground engineering studies, the best solution appeared to be URETEK re-levelling and stabilization services that would re-level some 3000 m² of sunken floors and foundations. URETEK had already successfully applied this proven geopolymer injection technology in similar operations in commercial environments.
Geopolymer injections were used to lift the sunken floor slab in order to generate an even surface to agreed specifications. 10 PowerPile geopolymerpillars were also installed under the electric control room. The job was completed successfully outside of working hours during nighttime shifts, and the business kept running normally during the whole process.
